Chicken tikka masala is one of the most famous Indian dishes, although the recipe originated in England. The recipe underlines the British view of Indian food: creamy, meaty and lightly spiced. But it is delicious. The tikka masala spice mix is best made in batches and preserved in a jar.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon unflavoured yoghurt
- 2 tablespoons tikka masala seasoning mix
- 600 g chicken breast fillets
Tikka masala
- 2 teaspoons paprika powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- ½ teaspoon turmeric
- ½ teaspoon chilli powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala spice mix
Sauce
- 200 g pureed tomatoes
- 1 tbsp ginger grated
- 3 cloves grated garlic
- 1 tbsp honey or 2 tsp cane sugar
- ½ teaspoon chilli powder
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 dl cream
- 1 teaspoon salt
For garnish
- fresh coriander
- lemon wedges
- 1 tbsp yoghurt
Instructions
- Cut the chicken into fair sized pieces and marinate with the yoghurt and tikka-masala seasoning mix in the fridge for at least a 2 hours.
- Place the chickens loosely on skewers and place in a 270C oven for 11 minutes. An oven with grill racks is even better. Grill the chicken skewers quickly in the hot oven. Turn over occasionally. The surface of the pieces may even get a little charred.
- Meanwhile, put the sauce ingredients in a saucepan and start cooking, about 20 minutes.
- Finally, add the grilled chicken pieces to the tikka masala sauce and simmer for 5 minutes. Check the taste and enjoy.
