In all its simplicity American delicacy Mac and Cheese is unimaginably good. The Mac and Cheese can be served as a side dish or made into a meat filled version as a main course. For a meat filled Mac and Cheese add ham or bacon. You can also add crunch to the top with crushed cheese crackers.

Mac and Cheese
Ingredients
- 350 g macaroni
- salt 1 tbsp in cooking water
- 1 litre water
- 5 dl whole milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon wheat flour
- 200 g grated cheddar or other cheese
- ½ tsp white pepper
- ½ teaspoon sugar
- 2 tbsp breadcrumbs or crushed cheese crackers on top you can leave them out
Instructions
- Cook the macaroni in well-salted water until almost done. Pour off the water and leave to steam for a while.
- While the macaroni is boiling, melt the butter in a saucepan and stir in the wheat flour. Whisk in the milk and bring to a rapid boil. Season with white pepper, salt and sugar. Melt in the cheddar and leave the cheese sauce to rest.
- Mix the ingredients, pour into a baking dish and sprinkle with breadcrumbs.
- Gratinate the Mac and Cheese under a grill rack or in a 250C oven for a few minutes to allow the crust to colour a little. Be careful not to burn.
- Let the Mac and cheese to cool for 15 minutes after the oven and serve it.
