Ingredients
  

  • 350 g macaroni
  • salt 1 tbsp in cooking water
  • 1 litre water
  • 5 dl whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon wheat flour
  • 200 g grated cheddar or other cheese
  • ½ tsp white pepper
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • 2 tbsp breadcrumbs or crushed cheese crackers on top you can leave them out

Instructions
 

  • Cook the macaroni in well-salted water until almost done. Pour off the water and leave to steam for a while.
  • While the macaroni is boiling, melt the butter in a saucepan and stir in the wheat flour. Whisk in the milk and bring to a rapid boil. Season with white pepper, salt and sugar. Melt in the cheddar and leave the cheese sauce to rest.
  • Mix the ingredients, pour into a baking dish and sprinkle with breadcrumbs.
  • Gratinate the Mac and Cheese under a grill rack or in a 250C oven for a few minutes to allow the crust to colour a little. Be careful not to burn.
  • Let the Mac and cheese to cool for 15 minutes after the oven and serve it.
